Case Study: Umbo Capital Raise

Impact investors have the opportunity to provide impact capital to help the social enterprise sector to grow. In this case study, we explore how social enterprise Umbo undertook its capital raise from aligned investors.

Umbo is a social enterprise that seeks to make occupational therapy and speech pathology services more accessible for marginalised communities. Working with impact intermediaries in the sector, the founding team identified their growth plans and clarified their funding gap. The team were introduced to social enterprise investor Fortis River who invested $200,000 to ramp up their ability to onboard more clients and clinicians, and cut wait times down for more families.

The video case study below provides valuable insights from both sides of the capital raising journey. Hear Umbo’s co-founder Weh Yeoh and investor Chris Murdoch share their perspectives on the value of impact investing and the role that Social Impact Hub played to support both parties on the capital raise.

We were really lucky to find amazing investors through the Social impact Hub... We’d really struggled to find investors that were interested in social impact prior to that.
— Weh Yeoh | Umbo
Umbo was in our wheelhouse - small enough to be meaningful, but with influential growth prospects and a good impact story. Social impact Hub play a key role in helping to make a market that I could participate in by presenting a series of investment opportunities on an annual basis that present sound stories.
